NCNA Committee
Chair - Gemma White
Concordia Netball Club Northumberland netball has played a huge part in my life, I started playing at the age of 12 and never looked back. As a player, I've played in many different settings from regional to university to representing England at Nets (Indoor Netball). As well as continuing to play, coaching is a real passion of mine. I coach at my club and I'm the current head coach of North East Rhino's 17's and assistant of the 19's. |
Although netball takes up a lot of my time through playing, coaching, and being chair of Concordia Netball Club, my work life also consists of sports development. Working in development roles for NGB's including England netball and more recently Snowsport England has prepared me well for taking on the chair role. Having previously been a member of the NCNA as membership secretary and performance lead, I'm excited to rejoin the committee to continue to grow our amazing county.

Astley Netball Club I have played netball from a very young age and have been playing throughout the years until now. Even as a mother of 3 I still find the time to fit in my favourite pastime. I help out at my club as a coach to the juniors, an umpire, committee members and most importantly I participate as a player and captain for my team. I am also Affiliations Secretary to Astley Netball Club and I help organise the operations in the club. |
I joined NCNA in 2018 and I hope I will be able to continue to contribute and support clubs and the committee with the affiliation process. My passion and commitment to the sport remains as strong as ever.

Morpeth Netball Club I started playing netball at the tender age of 8, got the bug and have played continuously ever since! On moving North, I joined Morpeth NC and have held most roles on the Committee and currently the EN membership secretary. Around 10 years ago I was persuaded to help at the junior club and found a passion for supporting new and junior players, so completed my Level 2 coaching. I love watching their improvement and take pride in being part of their netball journey. I give whatever I can to help run the club smoothly and was lucky enough to receive the Loraine Netherton Unsung Hero award. Now taking on this role I hope to give my support to the County to continue to grow the netball family in Northumberland Email - [email protected] |
Treasurer - Nicola Lewis
Morpeth Netball Club I would describe myself as a Netball addict, just ask my husband and two girls! I love all things Netball it's my "ME" time, the sport plays a big role in maintaining my own fitness. I play, coach and I'm now working towards my C award. I take great pleasure in playing a small part in helping grow the sport in Northumberland and nurturing and coaching the next generation of Netballers. Email: [email protected] |
Competitions Secretary - Jolene Byers
Ponteland Junior Netball Club and Astley Netball Club I was the founder of Ponteland Junior Netball Club when it started up in 2008. I started teaching in the local area and wanted to give those I taught the opportunity to access club standard netball. 5 months later I went along to Astley Netball and started training with them, having not played since school and only recalling player at 6th form as my background was football I then went on to find my love for the sport. |
I took over as head coach of Astley Netball Club after 2 years, and became involved in the performance pathways in Northumberland at this point. I now eat, drink and breathe the sport. I have been recognised twice at regional for my contribution, I run the junior and senior leagues, I am a c award umpire about to embark on my b award and successfully run 2 clubs, I am performance coach and I teach also in Northumberland.

Performance Secretary - Laura Hassan
Morpeth Juniors I have been part of the netball world from being 6 years old, when I fell in love with the sport and didn't want to be anywhere else but a netball court. I played in North Durham for the best part of my netball life and across the UK competing in various competitions before moving to Northumberland. |
I am a qualified EN L2 Coach and attended Cambridge University where I studied Managing High Performance teams. I was privileged enough to study alongside Gold and Silver medal Olympians and F1 team performance specialists, which was an incredible and inspiring experience! I have been in my role as County Player Development Lead for 3 years and I'm excited to be able to give back to the County using my experience and manage our U15 and U13 Country Development Programs, which are endorsed by England Netball.
I have a huge passion for grassroots sports and participation in netball. I am the Head Junior Coach at Morpeth Juniors and also coach within their adult section. Email - [email protected]

Wansbeck Netball Club Club membership began to grow and before we knew it we had 4 ladies teams. I eventually was selected to play on the first team playing my favourite position Centre and sometimes Wing Attack. As the club began to grow in numbers, I started to get interested in coaching and would often help the club coach during training sessions. |
At the same time we started up a junior club and once again I found myself giving up some
more of my time to assist.
I took my Level 1 Coaching Award followed by Bridging The Gap Award as it was described in those days. The next step was to work towards my umpiring qualification taking the C Award which I gained in June 2004.
In the meantime, I had been invited to join the County Committee. Initially it was just as a committee member but I was soon given the task of Publicity Officer. It was a job I had done for many years at my club, sending in weekly match reports and photographs to advertise and promote the sport of netball.
It wasn't long before I was volunteered into the job of County League Secretary. A role I did for over 12 years alongside organising presentation and awards evenings for ladies and junior leagues. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to step down from this role and my involvement with the committee.
After a short spell away, I rekindled my involvement with the County and was soon back sending those match results to the local papers.
Netball has been my life for many years having been involved in many different roles at both club and county level. I've always said it's like having another job but a one you get great pleasure and enjoyment from.

I have a love for netball and I still play in Tyne and Wear league for my team Gems. I have made so many friends throughout the years. There are some who don't play anymore but we still meet every Saturday for cake and coffee. I can't imagine my life without netball in some form or another.
